An annual rodeo will be held in Lubbock this week.

The 63rd Annual Texas Tech National Intercollegiate Rodeo will be held at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center on Thursday, October 18th through Saturday, October 20th.

The event will feature 15 colleges and universities from the Southwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, bringing more than 500 participants to the area.

Events get underway at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Tech Equestrian Center, located three-quarters of a mile south of 50th Street on Upland Avenue.

Tech’s rodeo team will compete in five additional rodeos during the spring semester, with the goal of qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo. The top two teams and top three individuals in the region will automatically advance to nationals, to be held in June 2013 in Casper, Wyoming.

Admission is $10 for each night, and children under age six are welcomed for free. Tickets can be purchased for $2 off at Lubbock Gebo’s and Dollar Western Wear. Admission is free from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. for Friday and Saturday.

Proceeds from the rodeo will go to support the team’s general budget for the year.
