A Lubbock woman has been arrested after reportedly lunging at an officer with a box cutter.

On Wednesday, January 29th, a Lubbock Police officer responded to a call of a suspicious subject in a vehicle at 65th Street and Slide Road just before 4:30 p.m.

Officer Pringle discovered that a woman had locked herself in her vehicle at the scene, and asked her to open her car door.

The woman opened the door and according to Lubbock Police, lunged at Officer Pringle with a box cutter.

The officer ordered her to drop the box cutter, and reportedly had to use his taser to get her to comply.

The woman, 61-year-old Mary Helen Vela, was arrested and medically cleared at University Medical Center before being taken to the Lubbock County Jail.

Vela is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and is being held on $25,000 bond.
