A 60 mm mortar found in fishing net has been destroyed by the Victoria County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say that a man took the shell from Cuero to Victoria Tuesday to turn over the ordinance to police.

Deputies treated the shell as live and evacuated and blocked off a one-block area.

Explosives experts moved the shell to a safe area and detonated it.

It was determined that there were no explosives inside the shell.

Lt. Gary Lytle asks that for the safety of anyone who finds a dangerous object, to leave it alone and immediately call authorities.
