Some Lubbock students ended the school year on a high note.

60 band, choral, and orchestra students from all four Lubbock ISD high schools received first-division ratings at the University Interscholastic League’s 2012 Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.

The contest took place at the University of Texas at Austin, and a first-division rating is described as superior.

In order to compete at the state level, students must first earn a first-division rating at the UIL Regional Solo and Ensemble event held earlier in the year.

“We are incredibly proud of these students from our four high schools,” said LISD Fine Arts Director Will Burks. “The extra effort and hard work it takes to prepare for a high-stakes solo or ensemble competition will pay enormous dividends for our high school programs in the years to come
