On January 20, 1968 52,693 fans watched the Houston Cougars play the UCLA Bruins in a regular season basketball game at the Houston Astrodome. At the time, it was the largest crowd to ever watch a basketball game. The Cougars that night ended UCLA's 2-year winning streak and helped catapult the game of college basketball to national prominence.
