Thirty two Texas Tech athletes, representing 14 sports, were recently honored as 2014-15 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.

Overall, 406 new or incoming freshmen at Big 12 schools athletes were named to the team.

Six Red Raider student-athletes -- Cameron Batson (football), Alex Buzelan (tennis), Jacob Hinojos, Todd Mickey, Taylor Jameson, and Kami Norton (all track and field) -- were among the 38 nominees that carried 4.0 grade point averages in their first year in the conference.

The student-athletes are nominated by each school’s director of student-athlete support services.

The honorees must be first-time/incoming freshman with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA in non-remedial course work, completing at least 24 semester hours of course work. The athlete must have also participated in at least one of their team’s scheduled contests and must have been a member of their respective team for their sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
