This is a record we really don’t want.  Unless we have unexpected rain in the next few days, this will be the driest year on record.  Through Tuesday, the rainfall total for Lubbock for 2011 was 5.86 inches.  The all-time record for dry weather in Lubbock was set in 1917, when the total was 8.73 inches.   Unfortunately, the National Weather Service forecast for the remainder of the year does not mention rain.
