A southwest Lubbock street will close to allow crews to install a new sewer pipe.

Crews will close 114th Street at Milwaukee Avenue at 7 a.m. Monday, June 17th.

This will affect traffic on 114th Street between Frankford Avenue and Upland Avenue, and traffic along Milwaukee Avenue south of 114th Street.

The intersection will be closed for around 48 hours to allow crews to trench across 114th Street and install the new pipe, according to the City of Lubbock.

If no problems are encountered during the construction, the intersection will reopen by 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The new sanitary sewer is being installed ahead of roadway paving as part of the Milwaukee Avenue and 98th Street Paving Improvement Project.

The paving project will widen Milwaukee Avenue to seven lanes between 94th Street and 114th Street, and will widen 98th Street to three lanes between Milwaukee Avenue and Huron Avenue.

The paving project is expected to be completed by April 2014.
